The nomination of candidates for OIA awards is an opportunity for Ontario Agrologists to honour and reward those who have contributed to the agriculture, agri-food industry and agri-life sciences sector.

G. Michael Jenkinson Memorial Scholarship
The Ontario Institute of Agrologists has established a $1,000 annual scholarship to honour G. Michael Jenkinson (OAC BSA 1963). Not only did Mike serve with distinction as Assistant Dean of OAC for many decades, he demonstrated and promoted professionalism in agriculture through his work and involvement in the OIA.
Students in any undergraduate or diploma program at any campus of the OAC, with a minimum cumulative average of 80%, are eligible to apply. Selection will be based on the highest cumulative average and the development of professional skills as demonstrated by attendance or presentations at conferences or workshops, participation in or leadership on committees, organizations, etc., involvement in business ventures, volunteering, mentoring or community involvement.

Cheryl Somerville, P.Ag., Memorial Distinguished Young Agrologist Award
This award may be presented annually to an individual OIA member under 40 years of age by December 31 who has made significant contributions to the agriculture and food industry in this province, the profession of agrology and/or the Ontario Institute of Agrologists.
Branches OR a group of Agrologists in good-standing may nominate by completing documentation on an individual and his/her contributions. Nominations must be submitted to the OIA Registrar and supported by adequate documentation as to the character, experience and accomplishments of the nominee.
Persons to be so honoured must be elected by two-thirds majority vote of the Directors at any properly constituted meeting of the Board and the decision of the Board shall be final.
Nominations are due January 15 and to be submitted to the attention of the OIA Registrar.

Honourary Agrologist P.Ag. (Hon.) Award
Individuals must have rendered significant service to the profession of agrology, the agri-food industry of Ontario, and not have been eligible to be registered as a Professional Agrologist in Ontario.
Branches OR a group of Agrologists in good-standing may nominate by completing documentation on an individual and his/her contributions. Nominations must be submitted to the OIA Registrar and supported by adequate documentation as to the character, experience and accomplishments of the nominee.
Persons to be so honoured must be elected by two-thirds majority vote of the Directors at any properly constituted meeting of the Board and the decision of the Board shall be final.
The Board may elect up to four awards in any one year or it may, at its own discretion, decline to elect any if no nominations are considered of merit.
Recipients of this award shall be:
- Exempt from payment of annual professional fees; and
- Eligible to use the P.Ag. (Hon.) designation after their name.
Nominations are due January 15 and to be submitted to the attention of the OIA Registrar.

Distinguished Agrologist P.Ag. (Dist.) Award
The OIA Board of Directors may present a “Distinguished Agrologist Award” to an OIA Agrologist in good-standing who has rendered significant service to the profession of agrology and the agri-food industry of Ontario and/or the affairs of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists.
Branches OR a group of Agrologists in good-standing may nominate by completing documentation on an individual and his/her contribution. Nominations must be submitted to the OIA Registrar and supported by adequate documentation as to the character, experience and accomplishments of the nominee.
Persons to be honoured must be approved by two-thirds majority vote of Directors at any properly constituted meeting of the Board and decisions of the Board shall be final.
Recipients of this award shall be subject to any established rules, regulations and fees of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists.
The Board may present up to two awards in any one year or it may, at its own discretion, decline to present any if no nominations are considered of merit.
Nominations are due January 15 and to be submitted to the attention of the OIA Registrar.

Agrology Excellence Award
The Board of Directors of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists shall present the Agrology Excellence Award to organizations, agencies or agri-business in recognition of outstanding contribution to Agrology in Ontario. Criteria for selection may include professional services of agrologists, technological innovation, quality of product, outstanding service, stewardship and protection of public interest.
Branches OR a group of Agrologists in good-standing may nominate by providing documentation appropriate to the contribution being identified. Nominations must be submitted to the OIA Registrar and supported by adequate documentation as to the character, experience and accomplishments of the nominee.
A maximum of two awards to be presented annually. Honourees must be elected by two-thirds majority vote of the Directors at any properly constituted meeting of the Board and the decision of the Board shall be final.
To be presented at the annual conference banquet.
Nominations are due January 15 and to be submitted to the attention of the OIA Registrar.

OIA Service Certificates
Members of the Ontario Institute of Agrologists who have completed 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 50 years of professional agrology membership in Canada will be acknowledged by the OIA Board of Directors.
