The Process

The process for achieving your Professional Agrologist designation begins with an application. The OIA ensures that access is fair and transparent and within provincial statute. The Articling program requirements can extend from only a few months to a couple of years. Upon submission of an application, supporting documentation and Board approval you may be required to:

  • Create a professional development plan tailored to achievement of your employment objectives;
  • Complete a project that showcases your skills and specialties, and contributes to the profession of agrology;
  • Complete professionalism and ethics curriculum;
  • Attend and participate in professional development courses and Branch activities;
  • Maintain an online professional development log;
  • Pass the general agrology exam;
  • Be mentored and coached by P.Ag.(s) during the process of articling; and/or
  • Acquire sector experience.

You can complete your application online and pay your application fee by credit card (VISA or MasterCard) in one simple process.  Our secured network assures the confidentiality of your credit card information.  To complete the application online, please click on the Make an Application link.

As an alternative, you can file your application online, print and mail the online application form along with your application fee (cheque or money order payable to the Ontario Institute of Agrologists) to the OIA.  An application without payment will not be processed.

Your application will be processed upon receipt of your application form and fee.  The OIA will be in contact with you to request the following additional information:

  • Copy of your degrees/diplomas/certificates;
  • Proof of OIA eligibility requirements, as appropriate;
  • Education evaluation for Canadian equivalency, if applicable;
  • Language assessment, if applicable;
  • Current resume;
  • Two references;
  • Your file to be forwarded to the OIA if transferring from another provincial institute of agrologists.

All applications must be approved by the OIA Board of Directors.  The OIA ensures that access is fair and transparent and within provincial statue.

The agrologist-in-training (articling) program requirements can extend from only a few months to a couple of years.  On a rare occasion the OIA Board may waive all agrologist-in-training requirements if education and experience requirements are achieved along with recent completion of an approved professionalism and ethics in agrology course.

Note:  Application fees are not refundable and if the additional information noted above is not received within six months, your application will go inactive and you must reapply.
